This May, we’ve undertaken one of our most exciting projects to date: Deadly Issues
We’re celebrating two major anniversaries in the coming months: the 50th anniversary of the 1967 referendum in May and the 25th anniversary of Mabo in June. How? With a project that’s one of our most exciting to date in May – Deadly Issues.In Sydney, our Deadly Issue is guest edited by Koori Radio host and writer Emily Nicol and in Melbourne our issue is guest edited by Yirramboi First Nations Festival creative director and dancer, Jacob Boehme.Our guest editors have worked closely with Time Out’s city editors to create profiles of Deadly Sydneysiders and Melburnians making an impact on their cities. Elsewhere in the issues we continue our ongoing conversation about the ethics of native ingredients, learn some phrases in Darug (Sydney) and Boon Wurrung/Wurundjeri (Melbourne) and survey the best of what’s happening in arts and culture across Sydney and Melbourne.In Sydney, we’ll also be helping Cheree Toka to collect hard copy signatures for the petition to fly the Aboriginal flag on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Time Out champions the culture and achievements of First Nations Australians in every issue, and this project will deepen our ongoing commitment to this coverage.
